Useful tips for Travelers

Traveling with a group can be very different from traveling with your family or as an individual. There are a few things to be aware of that will help make your stay pleasant and as trouble free as possible for everyone concerned.

  • When the group is checking into the hotel, please listen carefully to instructions for key pick-up and retrieving luggage.

  • Please be very considerate of those guests in the hotel who are not part of your group. Your buses may be unloaded in front of other guests’ rooms, so do your best to be quiet while this process is going on and while moving down the hallways to your room.

  • You will have a few roommates during your hotel stay. Please be considerate of their presence by not leaving your things scattered all over the room. This will also help in preventing your personal belongings from becoming lost or mixed up with those of the other room occupants.

  • Each morning before you leave the room for the day, make sure you and the other room occupants have removed any personal belongings that are on the beds so that the housekeeping staff can clean the room properly. Housekeeping staff is not allowed to remove luggage or other personal belongings left on top of beds and this prevents the beds from being made and the room being cleaned properly.

  • Make sure that you remove the “Do Not Disturb” sign from outside your door. Should the housekeeping staff honor that sign, you will not have a clean room when you return later that day and towels will not have been replaced.

  • Making prank telephone calls can be a safety concern. Please refrain and keep phone lines open so that security/safety concerns can be addressed if the need arises.

  • If you should lose your room key, contact your group leader or chaperones immediately. Your group leader or chaperone will accompany you to the front desk to get a new key.

  • Protect your room key from loss or damage while you are out during the day. If a key card becomes wet or is placed next to a cell phone, it may lose its program. It will have to be reprogrammed or replaced by the front desk.

  • Check out the safety information on the back of the room door or adjacent wall concerning evacuation of the building in case of fire or other hazard. Know your route to a safe area.

  • Know where your chaperones’ rooms are and how to reach them in case of an emergency.

  • Make sure that all electrics (curlers, chargers, hair dryers, etc.) are unplugged when you leave the room for the day.

  • DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR ROOM. It’s best not to bring expensive jewelry or electronics, and you should keep your extra money with you. It may not be a good idea to leave such items on the buses either, as they are serviced during your trip and the coach cleaners will be on the buses to sweep, vacuum, and clean the toilet. If your room has a safe, use it to store electronics, money or other valuables while you are out of the room.
